Presenting the most regular* game of chess ever! Play chess the way people have played it for millennia*!

In actuality, Regular Chess has several rule differences from standard chess, bordering on the absurd. Bored of stale, old, nerd chess? Regular Chess is the chess for you!

*non-regular rules enabled by default

Rule Differences

What follows is an overview of the additional rules of Regular Chess. Besides these rules, Regular Chess uses the ruleset of standard chess. Though it is encouraged that you play Regular Chess before reading these, I, personally, would  not fault you for wanting a summary of what you will be getting into.

Queen's Bishop

Special Power: Teleportation
Description: The Queen's Bishop can teleport to the InterBoard, a parallel board that the bishop can navigate without opposing interference. Warning: Careless use of teleportation can result in abominations of nature.

King's Bishop

Special Power: Spatial Traversal
Description: The King's Bishop is not limited to the boundaries of the board.

King's Knight

Special Power: Gun
Description: It's a gun!!!

There's also two spatial hazards. A piece on the Queen's Rook's square can launch into the air and try to hit other pieces. Any pieces hit will be knocked off the board. The launched piece will not survive the impact. A player can also summon The Giant King. Placing pieces on a combination of squares will create the sigil required for the summoning. The Giant King will end the game, for one side or another.

WARNING

Most of the fun of Regular Chess is seeing for yourself why Regular Chess is anything but regular. For completion's sake, the rule differences will be given in detail below. I, personally, would fault you for reading these before playing. If you insist on forgoing the minimal effort it takes to find these yourself and depriving yourself and your friends the joy of discovering them simply because you are lazy, continue. Of course, if you are a sensible and beautiful person and don't enjoy having fun dictated to you via internet text, try out Regular Chess before reading the following and come back once you have exhausted your avenues for further discovery.

(Ignore all of the above if you're excited to try it when it comes out and want to read everything in detail, of course)

Queen's Bishop

Special Power: Teleportation
Description:
Teleporting to the InterBoard moves the bishop to a parallel board. When teleporting to or from this board, the bishop will move to the equivalent square on the other side. Additionally, teleporting to a square occupied by another piece will fuse the two pieces. Besides combining the move set of both pieces, if the pieces are owned by opposing players, the resulting piece will be controlled by both players.

King's Bishop

Special Power: Spatial Traversal
Description: When moving, the bishop is not limited to the boundaries of the board, and can move beyond the 8x8 squares.

King's Knight

Special Power: Gun
Description: Each King's Knight is equipped with a single shot gun. Firing the gun will launch a bullet in a line towards the opposing player's side, killing the first piece that it hits. Friendly fire enabled.

Launch Square

Each square to the upper-rightmost and the lower-rightmost of the board can launch the piece occupying it. Any piece on these squares can be launched. Select the Launch button, use the mouse to aim, and click to begin the launch minigame. The launch minigame places the launched piece at the right end of a tunnel and each piece in the arrow's path at according distances to the left of the tunnel. The piece will fly forward and is subject to gravity. Press space to gain a burst of upward velocity. The piece colliding with anything results in the game ending. In case you haven't noticed yet, this is flappy bird. Any piece hit in the minigame will become physically interactive, and the launched piece will fly down the arrow's path, knocking off any piece that was hit in the minigame. The launched piece is then destroyed. Yes, by hitting a king with this, the player whose king was hit loses.

Giant King

Placing any five pieces on the following squares will draw the sigil for summoning The Giant King.

When summoned, The Giant King will rise out of the board and start spinning around the board at high speeds. Whoever's king is last to be knocked off wins the game.
